Product information "Violin tailpiece Baltic"

Berdani Violin Tailpiece – Baltic Model

Inspired by the Baltic Guarneri del Gesù

Berdani – Finest Components

The Berdani violin tailpiece in the Baltic model is a refined reinterpretation of the historic tailpiece found on the renowned Baltic Guarneri del Gesù. Its balanced proportions combine strength and elegance, reflecting one of the most characteristic design languages of classical Italian violin making.

Each tailpiece is individually handcrafted by master luthier Daniel Hiller and carefully adjusted in weight, balance, and vibration behavior. The result is a component that integrates naturally into the instrument while supporting a direct and controlled transmission of string vibration.

Historical Form and Hand-Carved Detail

The Baltic model follows classical proportions with smooth transitions and a clear, harmonious silhouette. Its appearance complements the instrument without drawing attention away from it, preserving visual balance and refinement.

At the center of the tailpiece lies a finely hand-carved Fleurs-de-Lys, a historic ornamental motif symbolizing tradition and craftsmanship. The subtle relief carving emphasizes the handmade character of each piece while adding a discreet sense of aristocratic elegance.

The carefully balanced mass contributes to a stable playing feel and a calm, focused tonal response.

Selected Boxwood Variants

The Baltic tailpiece is available in three carefully selected boxwood options, each offering its own visual and tonal character.

Dark Boxwood
Thermally treated boxwood with a deep, warm appearance. Its increased density supports tonal stability, focus, and a refined, calm response.

English Boxwood
A traditional material in historical instrument making, known for its warm orange-brown color and balanced acoustic properties.

Boxwood
Lighter in weight with lively grain structure, encouraging quick response and an open tonal character.

Craftsmanship and Finish

Each tailpiece is finely hand-sanded, treated with pure linseed oil, and carefully polished. This natural finishing process creates a skin-friendly, breathable surface while preserving the authentic character of the wood.

The tailpiece is fitted with an adjustable nylon tailgut featuring a braided textile cord, allowing precise individual adjustment to different instruments.

Depending on preference, frets are available in Dark Paper or Ebony.
